I'm surprised a music thread hasn't been created yet! Especially considering we've witnessed the creation of a religion based off of Billy Joel on the blog. So! Here we are. Discuss all things musical. Even musicals, I guess. What are your go-to tunes? What great sounds have you discovered lately? I've recently fallen in love with AlunaGeorge, who right now is fairly popular since DJ Snake of "Turn Down for What" fame did a remix of their song "You Know You Like It". It's pretty great, although I prefer the original track because of the heavier beat and also the video( s) are less depressing. These are a few of my favorites they've done, also, here they are working with Disclosure to make an insanely catchy song. But seriously, Aluna's voice is like heaven on my eardrums. What's everyone else listening to?

Lately I've been listening to The Shape Distance and A Million Acres of Sky by a modern classical ensemble called Chamber Cartel. It's not exactly melodic but it scratches some part of my brain that revels in that sort of discordance.

If you have never heard of anything by a band called The Tragically Hip, then you need to skip on over to Youtube and rectify that.
Canada's best bar band, The Hip have been making music for years. They are in many ways the soundtrack to not only my life, but my generation's lives.
New Orleans is Sinking (my favourite). Wheat Kings(my best friend's favourite). 50 Mission Cap (My SO's favourite) Courage. The Hundredth Meridian. Bobcaygeon. Looking for a place to happen. Locked in the trunk of a car. Boots or Hearts. Twist my Arm. Opiated. Poets. Fiddlers Green. Grace Too. Poets. Ahead by a Century. Just to name a few.
Their lead singer, Gord Downie, was diagnosed recently with terminal brain cancer. With treatment, life expectancy is 14 months. Without, it's 3 months. They just embarked on their final tour, which ends August 20th in KIngston Ontario, where it all began. Figured I'd do my part, spread the word of one of the best unknown bands in the world. One of Canada's best kept secrets.
