www.buzzfeed.com/kateaurthur/the-sexual-dynamics-of-fifty-shades-of-grey#.oky6rOpqxI can't with this shit. 'See, that’s the conflict that I think is at the heart of this: the feminist versus just feminine thing.' Yeah, THAT'S the problem. We all want a rapist stalker boyfriend but our staunch feeeminisssttt ideals won't let us. Man, what a drag this equality thing is. /s I MEAN WHAT THE FUCK. The entire article left me rage-stroking. And the way these two try to reach for depth in this steaming pile of fanfic...I just...can't. What do you guys think of this?

Agreed, I'm really surprised how much I've read since the movie's been out that expressed this kind of viewpoint. I didn't come across much at all in print that supported the book. I have to say though, if they put the best they've got to say in favour of the movie in that discussion, it's not much! The whole discussion comes across so wishy-washy and unsure of itself. I liked these quotes though:
"But Ana’s initial passivity seems, like her virginity, to be there to emphasize her blankness — there’s so little to her in terms of her personal history and her desires. With one notable exception: She enjoys the playroom activities Christian introduces her to without seeming to have any particular affinity for them. She’s fond of literature in a vague way. She has almost no post-college plans. She accepts Christian’s lavish gifts but doesn’t appear to like them. The movie makes wanting and pursuing things seem like an off-putting personality trait for a girl, and it’s bewildering." Though I'll add to that one - probably a lot of the appeal of the book is money porn.
And this one: "He is clearly a stalker in the book."
It's frustrating though, that they can say those things and still add to that 'but it's still sort of a good movie and kind of a hot relationship while at the same time not?'

I dislike this idea of feminist v. feminine in general. The baseline for femininity is not door mat.

To say that the book is feminist because Ana has orgasms is precisely why some sex-posi feminists are so misguided at times.

On the other end of the spectrum, we have Madonna who complains about the movie because Christian goes down on Ana too much. If this is way the rest of the world works, I'd definitely better buy my boyfriend some flowers today.

I only read the first book, and it's been a while, but I don't remember Christian going down on Ana that much. The morning after they first have sex I think, and the time when he asks her what she wants and she point to her crotch and tells him to kiss her down there. That really doesn't seem like that much to me. Of course, it is Madonna, so she's probably just saying shit for attention.

Ahhh yes. Because the height of femininity is a deep desire to be controlled and abused by men. Demanding anything else is sure proof that you are an evil FeministTM. Female = weak. But GOD will you please stop whining about ingrained sexism on our society!! It doesn't exist, hellooo! You guys can like vote and own property and stuff.
