Thanks for the link, I always like funny stuff about 50 shades of grey. Unfortunately, I have to agree with Mark on at least one count... If it would arouse the predominantly female audience, being part of that predominantly female audience, I wouldn't complain. Instead, Jamie Dornan is a living, breathing charisma vacuum that sucks anything even remotely interesting out of that move. I'd happily follow Ana, Kate and José around for 90 minutes of generic rom com. But Christian is just... meh. Just meh. So boring that there is no real word I know for it. And I'm not writing a spoof, more like a "What if this actually were a good book?" kind of experiment. Highly experimental experiment, if you get my meaning. So far, I'm at the end of Chapter 4 (translates to Chapter 3 and a half in the actual book) and I like it just fine. Even though, with Ana's subconscious (which I kept in, even though it's stupidly named, because it's extremely funny to write) and the first appearances of her Inner Goddess, I find myself humming this on a pretty regular basis

Glass,
If you're not going to write a spoof, then how in tarnation are you going to make Grey likeable? That in itself will be a major challenge as he's a stalker/schmuck/control-freak-who-keeps-going-when-she-says-no-and-claims-her-vagina-as-his-own-personal-property-and-suddenly-delegates-all-control-of-his-compnay-to-others-the-minute-he-meets-Ana. Blecccchh. Realistically, if he was a control freak with her then he was most likely a control freak at the office, and there's no mention by anyone why that stopped all of a sudden.
Good luck with your project, but it might be like the proverbial making a silk purse out of a sow's ear. At one point, it may just be impractical.
Let us know if you need any help!

Glass,
I will gladly help to read and give you my thoughts on what you've read (IF you need/want someone to)

Thanks for your encouragement and help, that really means a lot to me (it also means that I'll probably write this instead of the fantasy manuscript I should be writing, but I guess there's a downside to everything ). So far, I've finished Chapter 4 at Uni (at least I think I have) and I adore Ana, Kate, her subconscious and her inner goddess so much that they alone keep me writing. Christian is kinda annoying, because every scene I write with him, I have to stay in Ana's head (and let's face it, it's kinda crowded in there!) to write from her POV and in Christian's head so his reactions and motives are consistent (something that I think E.L. James didn't do... she wrote Grey to maximise his impact on Ana, not to make any sense from his POV). But he's bearable, I think, and at least a teeny-tiny bit sexy, I hope. He's lost a lot of his stalker-y creepyness (he is so NOT going to track Ana's cell, I can tell you that!), but not all of it, so he can have his character development, just like Ana gets her character development. I have a mostly free week ahead of me, so I hope that besides the many hours of math-y stuff I'll get a bit of writing done too, and I think I'll make a new thread for this project and put the first chapter(s) up there for you to read.

Glass,
One of the things that always bothered me about the story was Erika Leonard's constant use of the 'subconscious' improperly. Ana's character constantly has conversations with her subconscious but in real life that can never happen, as the subconscious isn't conscious or accessible to a person. The way the subconscious really works in real life is that it goes and finds other people that it is most familiar with. For example, it's why a person who grew up in an abusive household, despite all (conscious) logic, will go and find a mate that will abuse them the exact same way. What happened was their subconscious found an abuser, was familiar with it, and was attracted to that person accordingly. The subconscious will reject the person that is 'right' for them because it's just not familiar with that (correct) behavior. The abuser's subconscious, also, is actively looking for someone to abuse, so their subconscious also immediately is attracted to and latches on to the person who's subconscious wants to be abused.
So, to me, there's no reason WHY Ana's and Grey's subconscious' are linked to each other that would cause them to attract to each other. This is a MAJOR flaw in the story. The reason Grey is attracted to Ana is because the WRITER wants it to be, not because the characters (or their subconscious) want it to be. This is a classic example of bad beginner storytelling.
So if you want to fix that, give Ana a trait where she was dominant in her past life somehow while growing up (e.g., she had to be the adult in the situation where her parents never were) and that would cause the Grey character to subconsciously latch onto her, and hers latches back onto him because her subconscious just found someone that could be dominated.
Your job is harder than you think . . .
In real life, and speaking from personal experience, it's really tough to tell one's own subconscious to f**k off and not latch onto a person that is bad for us and accept the person who will provide a healthy relationship. Been there, done that. But that's what therapy is for.
As an aside and completely off the above topic, another thing I learned that was that the skills needed to start a relationship are the exact polar opposites of what is needed to maintain one. Ana and Grey do NOT have the latter skills as Erika Leonard has no concept of what those are, being the control freak she is.
Best of luck.

Also re: Helicopter Stuff: the movie shows Christian helping Ana into the right front seat of the helicopter and securing her in the infamous harness ... But shouldn't Mr. Hotshot Pilot know that is where he is supposed to sit for single pilot operations?
Apparently no one even bothered to do that much research.

You mean this is still getting two more movies? Ugh... Yup, and written by her hubby, to boot. And the director will be male, so there won't be any high-school-style catfights on the set, hopefully. I wonder what deal he made to go through that agony? I'd hold out for at least 3 to 4 pictures of my own choosing after all the tsuris EL gave Sam T-J.

I read some headlines on Facebook this morning, basically people complaining that Dornan, or whatever his name is, won't be staying for the fourth movie. Considering all the psycho-fans that have gone after his wife, accusing her of trying to ruin his career because she doesn't agree with the script or something, all the shit with EL barking insane orders and the fact he doesn't seem to like what's-her-face all that much, I'm surprised he managed to stay on long enough to finish the first pile of film drek!

And guess which video has over 11,000,000 views on Youtube right now?
I'd say gag me with a spoon, but that's something fans of this movie would probably be in to...
