Something I can't understand is why every girl with natural red hair goes through a phase of dyeing it jet black. Sure, I love jet black hair, I think it looks gorgeous. But compared to natural red? It's like you've won the Lottery of natural hair colours and you're just painting it black? My problem isn't that some people do this, but it seems to be every last one. It just confuses me is all. My cousin's a natural redhead and I don't think she's ever dyed it black. But then I don't really see her, so I'm not sure. Why do you think every redhead does that?

Guy Fawkes. Yeah, as a Brit myself I almost put "on Bonfire Night" before realising that wouldn't mean anything to a lot of people on here. That's what his name is. Why is that so hard for me to remember?

My sister and father act that way with me. My sister says I grew out of it (is that even possible?) and he denies I even have it. Even though I most likely got it from him. What a lot of people don't seem to get is nothing is copy-and-paste in life. Just because you don't do everything other people with your condition do, doesn't mean you don't have it. You just show it differently. You certainly don't grow out of it. It's scientific fact. What tends to boggle people is that having autism doesn't prevent you (at least speaking in cases of AS of HFA, as that's where I'm most knowledgeable) from *learning* social cues, quirks, emotional tones, ect. Most adults with AS manage to ride "under the radar" because they've learned how to hide and cope with what people have told/shown them are "unacceptable". I'll admit since this is a very recent discovery of mine, I haven't had time to come across some real headbanging comments, and I've been lucky enough to have some close friends who choose to support me rather than argue with me. But still, holy crap. It's a format that bugs the crap out of me in any context. With depression: "You know, I was depressed once last year, but all I needed to do was go for a walk/run/spontaneous vacation, and it really helped." "Have you tried exercising?" "Have you tried listing to happy music?" "I heard you shouldn't do medicine. Nature is the best medicine." Anyway, it's just really annoying, even if I know the person saying these comments (usually) means well. I was diagnosed in eighth or ninth grade and I'm wondering how different my school life would've been if the bonbon brains that made up my state's medical system, or whatever this would fall under, had caught it sooner. I mean, I saw a freaking therapist (I think that's what he was) when I was little specifically to see if something like this was going on with me. But nope, it took until half my school life was over for them to figure out what it was. And I've gotten the depression thing, too. Most people claim it's because I'm a lazy slob, among other things, and all I can think is they'd probably tell me differently if they heard what goes through my head on a daily basis.

Books would work just fine! Yes - a papier mache statue of This Fucking Guy, which can be ritually burnt when dry and we can all sing songs and toast mashmallows around the fire. Oh yeah, like they do in England with that one guy. What's his name again?

My most recent annoyances? Being told that there's no way I have Asperger's Syndrome because "other people do that, too". (I am in the process of getting an evaluation). Especially when they insist I can't have AS because [insert 'I have a cousin who does such and such'] does, and I don't do what they do. My sister and father act that way with me. My sister says I grew out of it (is that even possible?) and he denies I even have it. Even though I most likely got it from him. Hey guys so I saw this thread and was thinking maybe we should help out by coming up with a list of alternate uses for all those 50 paperbacks? Of course there's the obvious like liners for the kitty litter but surely we can come up with something more creative? So how about cutting it up and using it as the insides for party poppers/ glitter canons? It could be the gift that kept giving too because anyone that finds phrases like "down there" or "grey" could win a prize.... There's always paper mâché, too. Or does that only work with newspaper?

I am meanly bumping this thread up to remind everyone that 50 Shades Darker still hasn't been announced, still doesn't have a screenplay, still doesn't have a director, and last week the producer says he "doesn't know what's going on" with it. *balloons* *confetti* Let's hope it stays this way. /After all, there's so much more stupid crap to make bad movies out of./ We really need a tag or something for sarcasm. :/

So I follow an Aidan Turner fan page on Facebook (having been a fan of his since he was first in Being Human!) There is now a lot about the new BBC Poldark series. I have been into Poldark since I was a child, as my mother was a fan of the old series and we watched it too, and also read all of the books. SO I TAKE POLDARK SERIOUSLY and I am an old fart. The BBC have this thing on the site for #Team Demelza or #Team Elizabeth, which I find really asinine, as it is NOT Twilight, and as there has been the old series and the books out since FOREVER, I do not think it is any great mystery who Ross Poldark ends up with. So the Aidan Turner page person writes something saying she is now #Team Demelza and I commented that I thought the team stuff was stupid. She is now having a gigantic gothic huff and moaning on the page about the nasty person who called HER stupid! And lots of people saying 'Oh don't take it personally they are just jealous' bla bla. I did NOT call HER stupid. I just said the TEAM stuff was stupid!!! ARG. (And the team stuff IS stupid!!) Yes, team stuff regarding books and everything is stupid. Even more when you voice your opinion on it and then some "fans" go all psycho, saying you insulted them and not a specific aspect of the fandom. In my opinion, people like that aren't really fans, but followers, doing something because everyone else is doing it.

I've already got a mom, sorry.
Ugh, I'm not a fan of people like that. Just because they find something funny doesn't mean everyone will. But they usually seem to miss that memo.
But the kids who do sometimes turn into adults who do, whilst also telling their own kids it's okay to do that.

I'm not really sure if 'kids these days' is the right way to look at it. I know people of all ages who make the same kind of jokes and justify it the same way. Sometimes kids learn some empathy and grow out of it, sometimes they grow up to be assholes. I haven't been around any adults who do this, but I've been around plenty of kids. A lot of parents these days, at least when it comes to kids I've interacted with, don't teach their kids anything except they're the center of the world and can do no wrong. They're also afraid to punish the spoiled brats they're raising because someone might object and cause a scene, or worse, possibly start a whole drama about child abuse. The problem's bigger now than ever and I don't see it going away any time soon.

The world my sister is being raised in is already different than the one you and I were raised in, xebi. In this world, it's okay to joke about things like rape, racism and pretty much every crime on the face of the earth. It's gotten to the point where I'm surprised people still take said crimes seriously. "People are always joking about them, so they must be okay, right?"

Of course. Rape can't possibly result in pregnancy. Doesn't the body shut down that sort of thing, or whatever it was? Jeez It would be nice if the female body worked like that, but it wouldn't change how disgusting the act of rape is.

blowpop, I've talked to my sister several times about the rape thing, but each time she says I'm not her mom and she doesn't have to listen to me. Not that she listens to mom too much, either. As for the show, she watched it for the first time last night, as well as she can focus on something that's not all about her, anyway. After she blurted the racist comment she got up and went back to her room. The biggest reason I can come up with as to why she's like this is everyone her age thinks it's funny to do that kind of thing and she has to be part of the herd, if not the leader of it. I'm just hoping she grows out of it at some point.

I've already posted a couple things on this thread, but I wanna know what you guys think about this. My little sister's one of those people who shouts "Rape!" as a joke, usually when our dogs are jumping on her, and just tonight she said a show (Chasing Life) was racist because it didn't have any blondes. I told her it was kind of sick to joke like that and she pretty much just told me to shut up. She's fourteen so I know some of that's just her age, but it scares me that kids are so clueless these days. She doesn't think what she's saying is wrong or hurtful at all, but I find it incredibly offensive. Who's wrong or right here?
